ADDO Art Gala

Last Tuesday (5/31), in the East Ballroom of Price Center, ADDO-- a multi-functional/purposed venue that accommodates all mediums of art-- threw a social called, “ADDO Art Gala.”
Open to submissions from UCSD students (both grad and undergrad), faculty, and staff, the event featured a cross-pollination of artistic disciples- including paintings, sculptures, installations, a clothing swap, films, and performances.
The music (including artists 'Pense', 'The Monster Inside Me', and 'Yeti DJ') combined with the exquisite artwork set a killer ambiance- and the limitless buffet with sparkling cider and hors d'oeuvres added a nice touch. Samara Rice threw an amazing clothing swap for all the shopping addicts out there (you know who you are) that featured some great items for sprucing up any summer wardrobe.
In case you didn't get a chance to make it down, here are a few of our artistic selections-- the model with the antlers looks eerily like Kelly Framel from 'The Glamourai,' no?

AKPsi's Suit Up for Japan: A Charity Fashion Show

People, regardless of age, never cease to amaze when it comes to taking action for the welfare of people around the globe. We have been increasingly exposed to a variety of international problems throughout our lives and then the people and organizations that make the relief of these problems their goals. Since we were kids, teachers introduced us to the idea of being penpals, then canned food drives, homeless shelters, book donations, bake sales, Relay for Life, and many more until we just realized that what we are capable of doing is anything but endless.

On that note, fashion show for a cause anybody? In response to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan over two months ago, students of UCSD's business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi), hosted a charity fashion show on May 17th of which all proceeds went to Japan Red Cross. The fraternity teamed up with members from Delta Sigma Pi (also a business fraternity), Circle K, Japanese Student Association, and many other on-campus organizations for this cause. Students were runway-ready as they donned business attire ranging from sophisticated dresses on the ladies to classic dress shirts and tailored pants on the gents. One can call them fashion models, but better yet, models of our world.

Making Fashion History

UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Name: Krystal
Major: History
College: ERC
Year: 4th
Spotted: At Price Center Courtyard

Outfit:
Over-size knit sweater: Express "I love this sweater! I have it in a few colors."
Long grey tank: BP at Nordstrom
Leggings: Express "Everyone needs a great pair of leggings. It's a rule."
Silver Key Pendant: Tiffany & Co. "A Christmas present from my boyfriend....he's the best!"
Patent Tote Bag: Coach Leatherwear
Grey slouch boots: Madden Girl, can be found at DSW

Q: What is your 'go-to' outfit?
A: "Exactly what I am wearing! I just have to change the sweater that I wear over the tank and it changes the whole look of the outfit. It's super comfy but still looks cute and put together."

Q: So what is the first thing you notice about an item?
A: "Well, I shop pretty often so I always keep my eyes open for something new. I love sweaters so I automatically gravitate towards those when I am in a store."

Q: Do you have any style rules?
A: "Never wear something you are uncomfortable in. No matter how cute the outfit is, it won't look right if you don't feel good in it."

Krystal's over-sized sweater over leggings is an adorable new take on an 80's trend. The slouchy boots add a dressy touch that keeps the outfit from looking sloppy. When wearing an over-sized top it is also important to add accessories that draw attention to your waist, otherwise you could look bigger than you are. Krystal does this perfectly with her long key pendant necklace that draws attention inward, but the same effect can be achieved with a belt around your natural waist. Her tote is a functional and stylish alternative to a backpack, as it can fit a laptop, a couple binders, and has pockets for pens and pencils.

I Love The Way You Move

FRIDAY: ALL DRESSED UP
WITH SOMEWHERE TO GO
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Big Boi of OutKast will be the attraction of UCSD's 2010 Fall Fest. The event will take place at Warren Field tonight at 7 pm. Unless you are willing to dance the whole night, bring a jacket! This is the time to show off that body and dress to impress. Consider wearing a frock with sleek boots and printed stockings or an LBD! Whatever you do, try not to wear heels! They could very well sink into the grass.
Friday night booked? Big Boi will also be playing at FLUXX Saturday night.

Okay, I lied. THIS is my last post for the week. I just passed by a flier that says Seventeen Magazine will be on campus at the Price Center this Friday from 11-8pm. Interested in modeling ladies? Then go! You could get discovered. ;)
