Missoni- Milan Fashion Week

Flower Power

Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2011

This Week I Love...

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I apologize for the lack of posting... crazy, busy weekend back home.

So, one of my favorite fashion bloggers is Chiara from The Blonde Salad. She has an incredible wardrobe and fantastic style! She posted a picture during New York Fashion Week of a stunning Swarovski cuff (see image below) and I fell in love with it!

I had put the cuff on my 'Wish List,' however, I was browsing in Forever21 and I stumbled upon an identical bracelet! No, it isn't real Swarovski crystals but it'll do until I want to splurge on the 'real' deal. So, this week I love my new cuff...

What do you guys think? Aside from the fact that I need a tan!

I'll be pairing the cuff with the outfit below for the start of my week.

Happy Monday!

Max Mara- Milan Fashion Week

"I saw the slim black ski pants and smooth hooded sweaters that appeared early in the show, then the egg-shaped tunic dresses in plush wools with carefully — obsessively — controlled volumes, and I thought of a spa or a chic sanitarium in the Black Forest. I mean, I was off on some trip. The ski looks, but done with exact proportions and vivid primary colors, with the pattern on the sweater collars or hoods vaguely suggesting a tucked-in print scarf. The couture shapes that the designer Raf Simons explored last season — the fixed waists, the loose-back jackets — and now shown in a sport way with black ski pants. He brought the couture shapes forward so that they seemed natural to the Jil Sander imagery."

Thakoon Vamps Up His Models with Fabric Woven Hair

This New York Fashion Week, Thakoon added a tribal twist to his models messy updo by adding in multi-colored fabric. Thakoon's Fall 2011 Collection has been considered a mash-up of Marie Antoinette and a Maasai warrior. His eccentric clothing was a great hit but it was also the hair that added the finishing touch to the theme of this collection.

Turn Up the VOLUME

Thursday: Designer Spotlight
by: Meena, TREND writerHair reached new heights at Richie Rich's spring 2011 runway show during the Mercedes-Benz fashion week in New York. Voluminous hair has been a style that has withstood the course of time and can convey different moods depending on the intensity. It is a style that can be easily mimicked and has proven to be incredibly versatile. Bold make-up was accompanied by large bouffants and colorful hair accessories in Rich's newly unveiled Popluxe collection. Overall, this show truly paid a homage to a hair style that NEVER goes out of style and inspires women to turn up the volume, throw in an eccentric hair accessory, and feel like a runway model.

I had the pleasure of attending New York Fashion Week last week and I must say the experience was amazing! The stunning clothes, the eccentricity of attendees, the most famous designers in the world really made the event truly exceptional. Here are a few pictures I wanted to share with you guys! Check out our new issue coming out April 4th for a detailed account and more pictures!

Super Fly or Superhero?!

Good Morning!

I was going through some pictures online from New York Fashion Week and noticed that a lot of capes were being shown for spring and fall 2011. I often struggle with this trend... I have one grey, plaid cape which I absolutely adore but the reason I struggle is because I don't always find it practical. It's definitely easy to 'throw on' as you're walking out the door, but is it warm? I'm either too cold or too hot... I never know what type of weather is appropriate.

I'm still, however, attracted to this trend and fell in love with the following:

What do you think of capes? Are they super fly or merely for superheros?

The Man's Got Style

Name: Oliver
Major: Poli-Sci
College: Revelle
Year: 4th
Spotted by: 202 bus stop on Gilman

Q: So where does a stylish guy like yourself get his fashion inspiration from?
A: Probably two places. My dad [who Oliver told us hails from the UK], and vintage style from the 50's. The Rat Pack, Cary Grant, it's all very sophisticated.

Smart-looking Pea Coat: Calvin Klein
Heather-grey Cardigan: John Smedley
Cotton button-down: H&M
Navy trousers: J Crew
Boat shoes: Sperry Topsider
Black tie: Vintage ("from my dad!")

It was very exciting to finally find a guy who deserved the title of UCSD's best dressed. And all the gents at UCSD should take notes from Oliver. His style is classic and preppy, but he has put himself together in an unmistakably modern way. He is also one of the few guys I have seen who can pull off a tie outside of the workplace. By only fastening one button of his cardigan, he ensures that he looks pulled together without looking too uptight. His black pea coat is a much more stylish choice than the typical UCSD sweatshirt that 90% of the dudes on campus wear and is perfect for those weird, sunny-but-freezing days that we've been experiencing. And the boat shoes are a surprising touch that work perfectly with his preppy/hipster vibe. Bravo!

Airport Attire.

Hello everyone!

I apologize for the fact that this post was published twice... not totally sure how that happened but thank you for your comments on both!

I'm flying home tonight to see my family for the rest of the week and weekend, and this made me realize how much I hate getting dressed for a plane ride. I find that no matter what I wear, whether it be sweatpants or jeans, I'm always uncomfortable. This is usually because I'm either too cold, too hot, too bloated, and the list could go on!

I decided to use one of my favorite sites, Polyvore, to help me create the perfect airport outfit for my excursion tomorrow. I'm absolutely loving it! What do you guys think?

Urban Turbans...

Tuesday: Accessory
by: Lavanya, TREND writer

What do you get when you cross a knitted hat and a headband? A turban! These boho-chic hair accessories keep your ears warm with their broad width while looking extremely stylish as well. These bands also adapt with the seasons; knitted ones exemplify a more "wintery" look while silk turbans give a lighter feel for spring time. The shape of these hair accessories can be replicated with a simple head scarf to create variety in your wardrobe. Check them out at Nordstrom, Etsy, and Urban Outfitters.

Trendy Tuesday!

Good Morning Trendsetters!

Thought I'd make Tuesdays trendy and focus on a new trend that I'm currently loving... this Trendy Tuesday is dedicated to crochet! Crochet is everywhere for spring, adorning bags and bikinis to shorts and skirts.

I think crochet is great because it can be used in a variety of ways and always adds the perfect touch of detail!

Some of my favorite crochet picks for the spring season are:

Charlotte Russe Dress $26. 50

Charlotte Russe Studded Belt $9.50
Forever21 Boots $32.80

Forever21 Dolman Top $13.99
Inca Crochet Bikini $200
Lauren Merkin Clutch $220
Old Navy Vest $24.50
Robbie and Nikki Sweater $298
Stuart Weitzman Wedges $298
Woven Necklace from Overstock.com $75
Streets of NYC $5

What do you think of the crochet trend?
