STACIE MAY

THURSDAY: DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

photograph by Erika, TREND Staff Photographer
Local Designer Stacie May is not only an amazing designer, but an amazing person as well! Last night at our Launch Party, she was sweet enough to bring along some samples of her clothing that we featured in our magazine! Here, she is donning one of her very own creations. I must say, her collections are very neat. They are retro, modern, vintage and sharp. We love Stacie May!

A Dash of Culture

UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Name: Lilia
School: Sixth College
Major: Art History
Spotted at: Mandeville

Outfit:
Chocolate Colored Boots: Ross
Embossed Leather Purse: "I bought it in the mercado (shops) near the pyramids in Mexico"
Blue Jeans: Target
Scarf: The Metropolitan Museum
Earrings: Old Town San Diego
Hair Pin: UCSD Bookstore
Other Jewelry: Street Fairs or Farmer's Markets

Take on her own fashion:
"I try to implement different cultures into my outfits. It is what makes fashion both fun and personal. I don't like the mannequin look. I don't like rigidity. I want something that is subtle, but will make people look twice."

I often see Lilia around and she never fails to wear something new and interesting. All her outfits include eclectic accessories and clothing that somehow look perfect together. In this outfit, she has two different pairs of earrings on and it suits her well! I also feel that her thick black curly hair always acts as an accessory to her solid, smart looking outfits: especially with the vintage hair pin placed in it.

New from Anaikka

It was almost a year ago that the accessories and clothing brand Anaikka launched with their fantastic jewelry pieces. Now, in addition to lust-worthy items, like an intricately-decorated gold shoulder harness (scroll down), the clothing is a beautiful reflection of the same craftsmanship with which the jewelry is made. The sculptural shapes of the designs, balanced with an unexpected edginess found in the pieces' details, like armor-type metal embellishments, make Anaikka a brand ideal for any woman looking for the next great under-the-radar clothing line.

Stack, But Don't Pack

TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Clarisse, TREND Staff Stylist

Layering rings will easily take any outfit from bland to beautiful. Layer them, but be careful to not over clutter! Try layering classic stones and simple metals. Working this look can definitely revamp an outfit by adding some glitz, without going over the top and looking tacky. You can go simple for everyday wear, and even go edgy or glamorous for night. This is yet another perfect way to exude your inner you. Accessories are definitely a girl’s best friend!

Tip Toe Trendy Aboard The Star India

FRIDAY: ALL DRESSED UP
WITH SOMEWHERE TO GO
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer
Ready for an adventure? This is the second to last Saturday that the oldest active ship in the world The Star of India will be open for tours (and it's right here in San Diego!) Since it was built in 1863, this boat has traveled to Great Britain, India and Alaska. This isn't your regular ol' ship tour though. You will be led by lantern light and get to hear haunting stories of the creaky ship. One such story is how an Army captain aboard the boat somehow slit his throat...!
Star of India by Bridgett featuring a Vintage Ensemble

So now, what to wear on this adventure? I think we should be thinking nostalgic outfit. Think Titanic, think 1920's fur. Think heirloom jewelry that will sparkle in the lantern light making little flickers on the walls of the boat. Think royal blue dress with lace trim echoing styles of the past. Think classic beauty.

This way, even when your eyebrows raise and you freeze in fright, you'll look like a movie screen still all the while fabulously dressed. ;).

Krinkle, Fold, Layer, Twist

THURSDAY: DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Japanese clothing and accessory designer Issey Miyake's work is technologically ingrained. One such example of his inventive genius is his reinvented method of making pleats. In 1993, he launched this new found breakthrough and it is referred to as "Pleats Please". This not only includes the reformed pleats, but other discoveries as well.

His collections are dynamic with their careful precision evident through the sometimes intricate and sometimes simple details. When looking at his work, you know that it was created with much calculation. His work is somehow inventive, streamlined, chaotic and simplistic all at once.

I highly recommend you check out his website. The website in itself is an experience with the different music set to each page and layout. It seems that everything he touches is gold.

Every Little Accent Counts

UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Name: Karen
School: Warren
Major: Economics
Found: Campus Bookstore

Outfit:
Pea Coat: from Korea
Black Tights: Forever 21
Puma Shoes: DSW Shoes
Purse: "It was a gift!"
Fanciful Watch: from Korea ("it's from Paris though if that makes any sense!")

Take on her own fashion:
"I mainly dress casually, but it really all depends on my mood!"

What I particularly love about this outfit is the small embellishments such as the watch and the small lavender clip. You don't have to always be crazy with fashion to be fashionable. Sometimes, less is more!

Holiday Hosiery

TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Addie & Clarisse, TREND Stylists

Knitted and woven underclothing is now the feature addition to your outfits this holiday season. Knee high socks, ankle socks, solid colored printed tights, tights with texture and patterns, and bootie socks come in all different colors (styles that you could only dream of)!

TREND staff stylist Clarrise shared some very useful suggestions concerning knee high socks:
"They dominated for Fall Fashion Week. You can wear them casually with shorts, and some celebrities have even paired them with dresses for a more dressy ensemble. I recommend high heeled booties with socks folded down to the cuff, paired with a more feminine dress. It definitely enhances the outfit and you can really incorporate this look into your wardrobe no matter what your personal style is."

Hosiery has always been my favorite accessory. It makes me feet feel both cozy and happy. How lovely it is to see your legs covered in color or with dark patterned flowers. Can't you just imagine yourself, sinking in to the couch sipping a cup of hot cocoa while smiling about how cozy you feel?

I think will wear some tights to polish my outfit off tomorrow...how about you?

Irreverent Luxury

MONDAY MUSE
Recommendation: Addie, TREND Stylist

When you see the bubblegum pink hair, you may be reminded of Zhandra Rhodes (from last week's post on Monday), but this post is all about Miss Tarina Tarantino: "The Queen of Irreverent Luxury". She specializes in accessories such as jewelry, makeup and perfume. She has a barbie made after her too! Her saucy bold nature is echoed by bursts of color in her collections.

What I love most about Tarantino's work are her collections that follow themes. The Wizard of Oz collection is my personal favorite. I think it is appropriate that she chose this theme because of the movie's most awe-inspiring part: when the story transitions from black and white to bold technicolor. Tarantino's color is also bewilderingly beautiful.

Wouldn't you love to visit a Tarina Tarantino Botique and experience the beauteous collection yourself? You can! There is one in L.A.

Oh! Goody Goody!

WEEKEND FORECAST: SUNNY
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Name: Jessica
Major: Psychology
College: Marshall
Spotted At: Goody's Place and Market

Outfit:
Oxford Shoes: Thrift Store
Floral Tights: Charlotte Russe (which I know are stocked in stores now!)
Daffodil Colored Skirt: Forever 21
Tank Top: Wet Seal
Yellow Headband: Claire's

Q:How would you describe your style?
A:"I am a really cheap shopper but I wear what I love!"

I must say, I was impressed when I saw Jessica donning this outfit this morning. For those of you on campus, you know how blustery and rainy it was today. People were complaining bummed about the dreary weather. It was as if everyone embodied the gloom of the day wearing grey sweats and sweatshirts. It was so refreshing to see somebody who had color and an ensemble that exuded positivity.

I Love The Way You Move

FRIDAY: ALL DRESSED UP
WITH SOMEWHERE TO GO
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Big Boi of OutKast will be the attraction of UCSD's 2010 Fall Fest. The event will take place at Warren Field tonight at 7 pm. Unless you are willing to dance the whole night, bring a jacket! This is the time to show off that body and dress to impress. Consider wearing a frock with sleek boots and printed stockings or an LBD! Whatever you do, try not to wear heels! They could very well sink into the grass.
Friday night booked? Big Boi will also be playing at FLUXX Saturday night.

Francesco Scognamiglio

THURSDAY: DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

http://www.francescoscognamiglio.it/
Francesco Scognamiglio is a favorite of both Madonna and Lady Gaga. This is no surprise because only the rich can afford the crem della crem of fashion. One purse can cost up to 220,000 dollars! But, buying one of his pieces is literally like buying an artwork. He is an ingenious designer using not only cloth, but metals as well to construct his outfits. Scognamiglio's collections will definitely make you go "ooh and

"Stud"ious Student

UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

This week so far has been about taking charge and being bold. Warren College Student and History major Nathalie (shown above) is donning a smart assemblage of accessories and clothing . This morning she was spotted near the Triton Fountain studying.

Studded accents embellish her outfit. She sported lace up boots from Mizmoose and a purse from Urban Outfitters. Nathalie, scratching her head stated she wasn't certain, but she thought she bought the jewelry somewhere in Melrose. As for the thick, black rimmed nerdy glasses, they were purchased in Arizona.

The book I spotted her reading seemed to compliment her outfit quite perfectly. What a très chic chick!

La Roux and Kanye West "For the Kill (remix)"

This may yet be the greatest remix i've ever heard after Supernova(Calvin Harris remix). The odd but yet classic collaboration makes the anticipation for Kanye's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" – due November 22nd – bigger and better. The video to the remix is set to be released next week.

These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Addie, TREND Stylist
This Fall, lace up boots are walking their way into your closets! Having just bought a pair for myself, I can honestly state that they are both comfortable and fun to wear. These versatile boots go well with a plaid tunic (paired with leggings), a lacy skirt, or a plain dress. These boots provide many possibilities.

They are a modern twist of the 18th century lace up shoes. The twist being the height of the heel. Walk with confidence this week while you make stylish strides down Library Walk and through the forests between halls. Let these heeled boots take you to new heights!
