New Form Perspective

For knitwear designer Gail Travis the ability of the wearer to shape their own garment is key. Her line of unique pieces, inspired by sculpture and designed to be worn in multiple ways, is called New Form Perspective or N:F:P, because of the focus on form. I was amazed that with a few snaps and folds, a knit shrug from the collection becomes a dress, and then can change again into pants. Best of all, everything in the collection transforms easily into new silhouettes without unsightly seams.
I met Gail Travis when she had her last pop-up store in New York, and was instantly taken with how beautifully crafted and carefully designed each one of her knit pieces are. Even though Travis is not a sustainable designer, the versatility of her clothing speaks to one of sustainability's core concepts, doing more with less. This innovative approach to fashion design paired with the quality of her knits, makes her garments not only worthy of purchase, but worthy of keeping for years and years.

Meet Gail Travis and see the latest N:F:P collection at the pop-up shop located at the Roger Smith Hotel on Lexington Avenue (between 47 & 48th streets) September 20th -October 10th, 2010, 9 AM-8PM; nfpstudio.com for more information.

Cristiano Ronaldo in "Housekeeping"

A friend on facebook tipped me off to this video. Armani has actually done two different videos marketing their new line of jeans. I just thought this one was much more...interesting! The other one with Megan Fox is good too, but I love Mr. Ronaldo. Oddly, this video doesn't make me want jeans.

Have a pair of 3-D Glasses Handy?

Victoria Secret Model Model Miranda Kerr is featured in as the cover girl for Vogue Italia's September issue. It's not just a regular ol' picture though. The cover and the spread has full page 3-D photos of miss Kerr. Apparently this is not the first time a 3-D cover was featured on a major fashion magazine. Really cool idea!
It even looks neat without out the glasses too.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2010

Designers Jack McColough and Lazaro Hernandez

Proenza Schouler's fall collection by designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez  have made a series that features feminine skirts, pants and dresses . These outfits although dark, have rich, regal tones of blue, green and gold. There is such a perfect balance of color. As you can see above, the over the knee socks are purposely just low enough, that when you walk you can see a sliver of leg making it not a not totally complete tailored look, but still really nice.

--->The name "Proenza Schouler" is both of the combination of each designers mother's  maiden name. Cool eh?

Shoe, Fly! Don't Bother Me

Designer: Commes Des Garcones

These shoes are eccentric, quirky, off-beat, but can we say ugly? Can ugly be an adjective used to describe this pair? It makes me feel uneasy because the oxford shoe (which as you know these are), is shoe that exudes a feeling of masculinity and yet there are feet with red-painted toe nails underneath. Yet they are kinda cool because the thick line of the feet make it cartoonish. It's as if the shoe reveals an x-ray cartoon you.

Bizarre to say the least.

Bill Cunningham Working Hard During NYFW

Despite the explosion of street style bloggers over the past few years, it's nice to know that the original master, Bill Cunningham, is still capturing the best-dressed at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week.

Catherine Malandrino Spring 2011

With the reflecting pool outside Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center as a backdrop, Malandrino’s Spring 2011 collection took us on a trip far away from the overcast skies of New York City to the South of France. Malandrino’s inspiration for the collection came from the artists’ village, Vallauris, in the South of France, and more specifically, ceramist Roger Capron. This spirit of artistry and craftsmanship could be seen in the intricate details of the clothing like a floor-length macramé dress, chunky beaded jewelry, woven leather vests and intricately-designed studded jackets. Despite the emphasis on details, some things were still classic Malandrino: the models’ slightly tousled chignons, as well as pieces like wide-leg linen pants, drop crotch capris and bright dresses, are the kind of effortless chic that we’ve come to expect from Malandrino.

Edun Spring 2011

Walk this Way

In looking at fashion, it's interesting that for a long time men have dominated the fashion industry and yet women are the main consumers. Now a lot more women are interested and pursuing fashion. Anna Sui, the Rodarte sisters, and Vera Wang are a few out of the vast number of successes that have come through to be some of the top designers this world has seen.

Let us now, in this more balanced time in fashion observe the men's fashion instead of women's for a moment. The New York Times has it's very own fashion magazine and on their website they have a threadof men's fashion where you can keep up to date. Its through the New York Times Style Magazine. I recommend it. The posts are quite charming short reads. http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/category/mens-fashion/

Comparable to Paco Peregrin

Chris Nicholls, like Paco Peregrin, is a noted fashion photographer who works in a variety of subjects, ranging from standard fashion shots to lingerie advertisements and even photo shoots for celebrities such as Christina Ricci and Michael Buble.  The selected pictures show that though he is confident in doing "typical" poses, he is also quite willing to "think outside the box", even in the already crazy world of fashion.  How would you like to be at THAT dining table!

In case you missed the largest runway show to date....

Last night, Anna Wintour put on quite a show featuring over 170 looks from a wide range of designers in anticipation of Fashion's Night Out and to kick-off the first Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at its new location, Lincoln Center. The show was visually stunning, not just because of the overwhelming amount of stunning looks whizzing by, but also the unusual circular layout of the show, which gave everyone a great view. So in case you missed this momentous event in fashion history, here is the show in its entirety, hosted by Andre Leon Talley.

Coco Chanel: A Fashion God

So as college students, we don't really "want" to read more than we must but I MUST stress how interesting this book is.  Being a modern fashionista, what you will find cool about this book is the fact that it inculdes not only Chanel's take on clothing, but money, success and femininity. We could all learn a little from Miss Coco!

Luxury is Sustainable

“Quality items that stand the test of time – it is this concept of sustainability, symbolised by a timeless handbag that you wear again and again, and can pass on, that I am always thinking of when I design.”

Pictures Worth A Thousand Words

Just take a peek into Paco Peregrin's website. Words cannot describe just how talented he is. He does fashion, advertising, art, portraits (the list goes on and on). His photographs are so inventive. One picture contains enough information that words are not even needed.
What do you think?
